There’s the right way to immortalize a car in song, and the wrong way. For every ode to the V-O-L-V-O 240, there’s at least one Chevy Volt Song. Granted, the piece of fanboyism after the jump isn’t nearly so toxic as the prepackaged corporate drivel served up in honor of the GM plug-in, but we’d still put it on the same level as shoveling week-old, unrefrigerated sushi down your gullet. It’s just not something that we’d recommend, which is exactly why we’ve decided to post it here and share it with the masses.
Someone by the name of J Brave and a merry band of musicians under the name the Luminaries have taken it upon themselves to pontificate on the benefits of the Tesla Roadster in song. We’ll be honest – we don’t have a single musical bone in our body. It’s why we’re sitting here banging on a computer keyboard instead of rocking out on the ivories, but we know something worth listening to when we hear it, and this just ain’t it. Hit the jump if you dare.

Uganda has sustained robust economic growth for the last 23 years, a fact that opponents of President Yoweri Musevei ignore actually to their disadvantage. This growth has produced a private sector and a political and bureaucratic class with money and power. In denying it, the opposition actually lose the support, implicit or explicit of this small but rich and most influential section of our society.

Renault debuted its all new Wind coupe-convertible at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and now that summer is here, it’s time for it to hit the streets. At just over 12.5 feet long, the Wind’s closest competitor is likely to be the upcoming Mini Roadster and Coupe. Like so many other European automakers, Renault has gone with a hardtop, but not the type of complex, folding multi-piece unit found on so many others. Similar to the late Ferrari 575 SuperAmerica, the roof panel simply rotates back 180 degrees and stows flat under the rear deck.
The relatively simple top design allows the Wind to retain 9.5 cubic feet of trunk space, even with the top down. The only real downside is the huge sail panels that mean over-the-shoulder visibility looks to be all but non-existent.
The front wheels are spun by a choice of inline-four cylinder engines. The TCe 100 is a 1.15-liter turbocharged unit that delivers 100 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque while the 1.6-liter normally aspirated mill cranks out 133 hp and 118 lb-ft. The two powerplants (if that isn’t too strong a word in this case) deliver 37.3 and 33.6 miles per gallon (U.S.) respectively. With a mass under 2,500 pounds this could be a fun little machine regardless of the output.

Witness two pervasive trends in the German auto industry especially: First, the proliferation of sport-utes and crossovers. Second, the blurring of traditional market segments with increasingly bizarre bodystyles. Mercedes-Benz, in particular, has been a pioneer of sorts in both, ballooning its SUV and crossover lineup to no fewer than five models, and kicking off the segment-busting craze with the CLS four-door coupe. Now, the two may come together in a new product, if emerging reports prove accurate.
According to the ever-churning rumormill, the marque of the Three-Pointed Star is currently developing a new model to be called the GLC – short-hand for Geländecoupé. Now before you protest that the long-serving Geländewagen (or G-Class for short) has already bred a two-door model, the GLC will share nothing with the inimitable off-roader. Instead it is tipped to be a crossover, with a sloping roofline like the BMW X6 but in a smaller package that may even be offered with two-wheel drive as standard. Sources expect the GLC to hit the road sometime around 2014, but as yet, there’s no word yet on how Mazda feels about all this.
